Horus and the Mouse

I have, unfortunately, a mouse in my kitchen. I think it lives behind the oven. One of the cats brought it in from outside to play with it to death and lost it. As such, I think it is their responsibility to deal with, so I haven't yet bought a mouse trap.
This morning, as I was sitting in the living room reading a magazine, I could hear a rustling from the kitchen, which I thought was odd, as all the cats were outside. I figured that is must be the mouse, and got up to see if I could see it. No such luck. I think the thing, having escaped death once, is being extra careful, and not showing itself. However, while I was up, Horus came to the back door and asked to be let in, which I did. I went back to my magazine and Horus jumped up into my lap to demand his morning petting. After a few minutes I started to hear the rustling again and I said, to the cat "Horus, I think I hear that mouse. Go get him." A few seconds later Horus jumped down from my lap and headed for the kitchen. I got up and followed him.
As I got closer I could hear the noise from behind the microwave, and so could the cat, cause he jumped up onto the counter as proceeded to stare at the rear of the thing, crouching down like he was ready to spring. I very slowly moved stuff away from the front of the microwave, an blocked off alternate escape routes as much as I could. Then I told Horus "one, two, three..." and pulled the microwave away from the wall. pivoting on the rear left corner in the hope of forcing the mouse to the right, where the cat was waiting. Horus sprang, knocked over a salt shaker, and then jumped down from the counter. I thought I saw a grey streak along the back counter to my left, and I concluded that the cat had missed, and the mouse was again behind the oven. I sighed, and went to get a broom to sweep up the salt that had spilled.
That's when I saw Horus, sitting in the middle of the living room, looking at me kind of smugly, with a mouse but and tail hanging out his mouth. He'd caught it after all.
I told him "good boy" several times, then I went to clean up the salt. While I was sweeping up the spill I heard a "scrabble, scrabble, scrabble" and when I poked my head back into the living room, Horus was trying very hard to get behind the piano. The mouse was not in evidence. He'd lost it again. I may have to get a mouse trap after all.

On the fiber front I have finished another felted bag. I was trying to get it done before Radcon, which was Presidents' Day weekend, but no joy. I finished it the week after. I have pictures, but haven't downloaded them yet. Soon.

I've given myself until the first rehearsal for Faire to work on my stuff, then I have to start Kim's new costume. As this Saturday is the first rehearsal, I have less than a week left, and then this blog becomes mostly about sewing. ARM's going to need a new costume too. Joy.
